Public Safety Telecommunicator Positions

Applicant qualifications

  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • United States citizen
  • Type 40 wpm with a score of 90% accuracy or better

Public Safety Telecommunicator Recruitment Process

Public Safety Telecommunicator applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. The recruitment process can be rigorous, requiring each applicant to take and pass skills-based tests and undergo an extensive background check. Steps in the recruitment process include:

    1. Completion of assigned required testing. Test(s) evaluate a candidate’s keyboarding speed, multitasking abilities, memory recall, prioritization, call summarization, and cross-referencing speed.
    2. Completion of an oral board interview and Executive Director interview.
    3. Conditional offer of employment pending successful completion of remaining steps. (This is not a final offer of employment and candidates should not quit their current job or relocate based on this offer.)
    4. Criminal Background Check and Psychological Examination and Testing
    5. Reference Check
    6. Final Offer of Employment. Fingerprinting and baseline hearing exam to be completed before employment start date.

A 501(c)(3) organization, Thurston 911 Communications (TCOMM 911) is a countywide enhanced 911 answering point and dispatch center for all law enforcement, fire services, and Medic One departments. TCOMM 911 serves all of the cities, towns, and unincorporated areas within Thurston County.

TCOMM 911 is a state-of-the-art 24/7 x 365 operation, answering both 911 and 10 digit emergency calls as well as texts from the public and dispatching an appropriate level of response based on protocols provided by and agreed to by law enforcement, fire services, and Medic One.
