Working as a Public Safety Telecommunicator can be very demanding as well as very rewarding. We are a 24/7 operation, with a casual but professional work environment. Due to the nature of the job, shifts are sedentary with varying degrees of both high stress and downtime. Telecommunicators require excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates must be willing to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, and be willing to work mandatory overtime as required.
Applicants need not have previous experience as a Public Safety Telecommunicator to apply at TCOMM 911.
Applicant prerequisites include:
- Eighteen (18) years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- United States citizen
- Type 40 wpm with a score of 90% accuracy or better
- Have a valid CPR Certificate or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
Public Safety Telecommunicator Applications
Public Safety Telecommunicator applications are accepted on an on-going basis through Public Safety Testing (PST). You must register with PST at publicsafetytesting.com; a written test will be administered by PST and requires an application fee of $33. The eligibility list is a continuous listing, and scores are received from PST on an as-needed basis. Candidates will only be notified if/when they are going to advance in the hiring process and will be asked to submit a TCOMM 911 application and supplemental packet at that time. This includes a suitability questionnaire, authorization to release information, and copies of the candidate’s birth certificate, driver’s license, high school diploma or GED.
The recruitment process can be rigorous, requiring each applicant to take and pass skills-based tests and undergo an extensive background check.
